Winter in Holstein

Holstein is the southern part of Germany's northmost state. Because it's located between the Baltic and the North Sea it has a maritime climate, making the winters relatively warm. The winter of 1995 was an exception, with snowfalls right before Christmas and quite low temperatures.
These ice-plants were growing on the shore of the Plöner Lake. The strong wind kept part of the lake open and also formed the sculptures at its shore. (Taking these pictures was a bit difficult because the ground was icy, too.)
Not far from the shore one can find this old restaurant, the
right place to be on such a cold day.
