Thanks very much for the photos of Mount Brauneck, which would of course be my favorite if I lived in Europe, preferably Germany. But alas, I have never even visited there. Other Braunecks I met in Ohio showed me photos of the Brauneck Castle there in the region. I long to go one day soon, to the mountainous home of my ancestors. Thanks also for the English version, as so much I try to find out about the region is in German, not my native tongue.

Your photographs are top notch. The photos of the F4U Corsair look familiar. I believe this particular plane was restored by Ezelle Aviation in Breckenridge, TX. Saw it there about 3 years ago. The pictures of Switzerland are breathtaking. The cow pictures look good but I believe cows look best after they have become beef brisket, have been smoked overnight over hickory or mesquite wood and then slathered with barbeque sauce! Yeehah!

Searching for Rietzler

Hi, your website starts out with these names: Heiterwang - Werner-Rietzler-Steig - Thaneller, etc.  Is Rietzler the name of a mountain or a person?  I am an amateur genealogist looking for the birthplace of my husband's great grandfather. He was born in 1839 and left the town of Silz in 1863.  He left from Hamburg and first went to Brazil and then on to the USA by 1865.  His name was Johann Lorenz Rietzler.  Traveling with him were Joseph Gritsch, Agnes and  Mary Cecelia Dablander (all from Silz).  Do you know of anyone who could help me find out more about him?  I've contacted the archives in Tyrol and Vorarlberg but they had no information on this person.  My email is: nancy.reitzler@verizon.net    Thank you, Nancy Reitzler

by Nancy Reitzler, 12 Jun 2005

Re: Searching for Rietzler

"Werner-Rietzler-Steig" is the name of a path which leads up to the Thaneller mountain, near Reutte. The path is named after a person, but I have no idea to whom the name refers.

Re: Searching for Clasohm relatives

The Clasohm family originated in Northern Germany, in the area of Ratzeburg. We were able to find records dating back to 1634 mentioning the name, although we did not create a complete family tree.

Three Clasohms left Germany on April 25, 1850 onboard the ship Sophie, heading for Australia.
